New Pump Track Opened At Chesterton Recreation Ground

Cambridge City Council is encouraging children and young people to try out the new facility.

The new track is a continuous loop of smooth tarmac with jumps designed to maximise riders’ momentum so that they can ride with minimal pedalling or pushing. It offers an opportunity for riders of all ages and abilities to practise and develop their skills in an exciting, safe, and fun environment, and is suitable for bikes, scooters, skateboards and roller-skates.
 
The new pump track is landscaped to take in an existing concrete half-pipe, offering progression for those who develop their skills and experience on the new track.
 
Cllr Alex Collis, Executive Councillor for Open Spaces, Food Justice, and Community Development, said: “It’s always so positive to see new outdoor facilities being provided to make it easier for people to come together and enjoy our city’s wonderful open spaces.
 
“The new track is an exciting new facility for Chesterton Recreation Ground and I can’t wait to see people using it. It’s a real boost for the area and offers users a chance to develop their skills and enjoy spending time outdoors.”
 
The new pump track has been funded by Section 106 developer contributions, which are intended to mitigate the impact of new development by providing additional local facilities or improving existing ones.
 
The adjacent pavilion building was also recently completed by the council, funded by Section 106 developer contributions, boosting recreational activities on offer at Chesterton Recreation Ground to benefit the local community.
