Plans for a massive solar farm around Newmarket villages have been given the green light.
The controversial proposals were approved by the secretary of state for energy Ed Miliband on Friday 12 July 2024, following several postponements.
The 2,500-acre Sunnica site, which is the equivalent of about 2,000 football pitches, stretches out to Chippenham, Isleham, Freckenham, Fordham, West Row, Worlington, Burwell, Barton Mills, Red Lodge and Snailwell, and could power over 170,000 homes.
East Cambridgeshire District Council and Suffolk County Council have both previously opposed the plans.
