Government will decide Cambridge Beehive Centre plans

The government has intervened over plans to redevelop the Beehive Centre in Cambridge.

Cambridge City councillors were due to meet on Wednesday 12 February 2025 to decide on whether to approve or refuse the proposal to knock down the shopping centre and build a new research site, including labs, offices, shops and restaurants.

But, as the meeting was due to start, councillors discovered that the application had been "called in" by the Secretary of State for Housing, meaning a decision on the site will now be made by central government, rather local government.

The plans were recommended for refusal.
