Lorry drivers are urged to take the following advice:
• Keep your vehicle and cab securely locked at all times. Remove keys whenever the vehicle is left unattended.
• Park in designated car parks or services.
• Try to park in a way that prevents access to the rear doors. Consider parking with loading doors close to another vehicle or wall.
• When returning to an unattended vehicle, always check signs for tampering.
• If you realise a theft is taking place, don’t leave the safety of your vehicle. Lock the doors, start the engine, switch on the lights and if necessary, sound the horn to attract attention.
• Avoid talking about the loads and routes with other drivers or customers.
• Protect documents such as shipping orders and consignment notes.
