Cleaner air plan supported by City & District Councils

A 5-year plan to make Cambridge's air cleaner has been agreed.

Cambridge City Council and South Cambridgeshire District Council have set out their new joint strategy which will run until 2029.

The strategy document highlights that traffic on Cambridge’s roads is the main contributor of Nitrogen Dioxide emissions.

The proposals include supporting public transport, consolidating freight and looking at last mile deliveries, improving cycling and walking routes, electric car charging points and encouraging people to use “green infrastructure”.

City Councillor Rosy Moore, Executive for Climate Action and Environment, said:

"We should not be kidding ourselves that just because we are achieving the national targets that our air is good enough.

It is good to note things have improved but there is still a way to go".
