Plans to ship Cambridgeshire's recycling to a plant in Northern Ireland will go ahead.
The move will see waste from Cambridgeshire sent to a facility in Newry, around 400 miles away from the current site in Waterbeach.
The new contract, set to begin in March 2025, will cost Cambridge City and South Cambridgeshire councils a combined £2.2million, and will see 400 more tonnes of waste recycled each month.
Rosy Moore, executive councillor for climate action and environment, said the new contract was the "best option in these circumstances".
