U's fans are celebrating staying up in the football league.

Cambridge United needed a single point from their away match at Port Vale on Saturday 27 April to book their place.

The side were also helped by Burton Albion going 3-0 down away at Fleetwood Town and Stevenage beating Cheltenham Town 2-1.

It's the second successive year United's fate came down to their final game of the season.

The club's seen an unprecidented three managers take charge of the side this year.

The U's parted ways with Mark Bonner in November 2023, Neil Harris left for championship side Millwall after only a matter of months in February and Garry Monk took over in March 2024.

Following confirmation of their place in League One, Head Coach Garry Monk paid tribute to his squad. He said:

"The players deserve all the credit and the staff. The way that they've applied themselves to me coming in and trying to go on the pitch and deliver results.

We've had eleven games, six of those games we've delivered results, and with five of those, two were a disaster but three of them were a chance of getting points".

Liam Bennett, United defender is delighted with the result, he said:

"We've given it all season. One thing you can't doubt is our hard work.

We knew we'd get what we deserved if we did exactly what we've done throughout the season and thankfully we've stayed up".
